Baratza Virtuoso Plus Coffee and Espresso Grinder

I sprung for the Baratza Virtuoso Plus grinder after buying a low end burr grinder from a different company that didn't work well from the start. This machine works beautifully, intuitively, relatively quietly and quickly. Most importantly, it grinds consistently and well at both ends of the grind size spectrum, which are the two types my family uses - french press (coarsest ground) and espresso (very fine ground). Most seem to be able to handle one or the other very well, but not both. In addition, the hopper is large, and I can grind exactly as much as I use for one serving (once I familiarized myself with the amount of seconds it takes to grind the amount I wanted for each size french press I use), so I don't have to count scoops each time. I just grind a specific amount of time and dump the grounds directly into the press. A bonus is that it makes by far the least mess on my counter of all the grinders I've ever used - practically none in fact. I appreciate this machine every time I use it.

I am really loving this grinder! The grind is super consistent, the grinder is quiet (I can grind for my morning cup while others are sleeping), and I love the little back light that lets you watch the ground coffee go into the bin. The timer is also super nice - I have it set for my coffee preference, so all I need to do is push the button and watch it grind for the perfect cup of coffee in my french press! I'm SO glad I decided to spend the money for this grinder!

I brew coffee three different ways: Chemex, Aero Press, and French Press. It is easy to switch back and forth with the exact grind. This is a great machine.

I primarily this grinder use at home, and enjoy a cup of high-quality light-roast coffee- I don't drink espresso/dark roasts. This is my first near-pro level grinder and so far, I am very pleased with the product. Appears solidly built (8 pounds), and performs very well. The instructions should be read prior to first-use as there are a couple of things to know regarding operation (eg. you should adjust the grind level when the device is either empty or while grinding) and routine maintenance. I've not found too much 'static cling' (sounds like laundry!) of grinds following a grinding- I gently tap on the grinds container upside-down and nearly all grinds are dispensed. I also saw some reviews report that the two lights for the grinds container do not provide equal light intensity, but I've not observed that on my unit- perhaps a later-release fix.
I was tempted to wait for the upcoming release of the Baratza Encore ESP, but like buying a new car, I don't usually buy the first issue of a major model remake. The Virtuoso Plus is likely a very mature system now, including the grinding burr more optimal for very fine grinding. And so far I am very pleased with performance.

Love the new grinder. I use it mainly for espresso, and it grinds consistently and quickly. Couldn't be happier!

I've tried a couple of less expensive grinders over the years.
They've done a good job of grinding beans.
But what's not available are parts to effect repairs.
When the last one broke I searched for parts and couldn't find anything other than the basic items such as the hopper, lid etc.
I did my due diligence online and found the Baratza grinders have an excellent support system.
If I wanted to I could build the grinder from the parts catalog.
I'm very pleased with that.
As far as the functionality of the Virtuoso + it is quieter than the other grinders I've used, the grind size is more consistent, the build quality is excellent.
I'm hoping to get many many years from it.

Best coffee grinder ever! This is my second Virtuoso. Consistent grind every time! French Press Co has the best customer service anywhere!

Being a tea business, we actually use this as a mill of sorts for a number of the raw ingredients we put into our blends. E.g. Chicory root, cardamom pods, orange peel, etc. It has worked wonderfully for this purpose since buying it four months ago is the first grinder we've used which provides grinds large enough for our needs. Our only complaint is in the difficulty of cleaning the burrs, since you cannot easily remove them from the grinder in order to brush, soak, or similar. Despite that, however, we're very pleased with this grinder.

This is one terrific grinder. It is my second Virtuoso and I love the improvements. Better motor and much easier to read grind settings. Its features, durability and longevity make it well worth the price.
